Josef Dabernig is an artist who has worked in sculpture, photography, construction, and writing while gradually moving to film.

His work is exhibited in the Institute of Defensive Magic.

His film Hypercrisis (2011) was nominated for the European Film Awards at the Venice Film Festival, Venice, in 2011. Dabernig’s works have appeared at international festivals including: International Film Festival, Toronto, 2009; Locarno Film Festival, Locarno, 2008; International Short Film Festival, Oberhausen, 2006; and 29th International Film Festival, Rotterdam, 2000. Catalogs and monographs on his work include: Panorama (2013); Handwritten Copies (2008); and Film, Foto, Text, Objekt, Bau (2005). Recent exhibitions include: Josef Dabernig: Panorama, Kunsthaus Graz and Neue Galerie, Graz, 2013; Leisure, Discipline and Punishment, 6th Biennial of Moving Image, Mechelen, 2013; Gwangju Biennale, Gwangju, 2012; 50th Venice Biennale, Venice, 2003; 49th Venice Biennale, Venice, 2001; and Manifesta 3, Ljubljana, 2000. Dabernig lives and works in Vienna.
