Dmitry Gutov is an artist who originally trained as art historian at the Institute of Art, Sculpture and Architecture in the Academy of Arts, St. Petersburg.

He began exhibiting in the late 1980s, producing conceptual work in painting, video, photography, and sculpture. Gutov’s theoretical and artistic interests span the works of Marx, Hegel, and Russian philosopher Mikhail Lifshitz, among others. Recent exhibitions include: Nothing to Be Surprised Of Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Moscow, 2013; Contemporary Russian Art. The Kandinsky Prize, Centre d’Art Santa Monica, Barcelona, 2012; 9th Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai, 2012; Russian Cosmos, Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, Turin, 2011; Counterpoint: Contemporary Russian Art, Louvre Museum, Paris, 2010; 3rd Moscow Biennale, Moscow, 2009; Russian Dreams, Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach, 2008; and documenta 12, Kassel, 2007. Gutov lives and works in Moscow.
