Kiluanji Kia Henda is a self-taught artist working in visual arts, theater, and music.

His various works often deal with questions of transnational and postcolonial history and politics. Recent awards and residencies include: National Prize for Culture and Arts, Ministry of Culture of Angola, 2012; Visa Pour La Creation, the French Institute, 2011; residency, Fondazione di Venezia, Venice, 2010; and a residency in South Africa funded by the Swiss Arts Council – Pro Helvetia, 2008. Recent exhibitions include: Homem Novo, Kunstraum Innsbruck, Innsbruck, 2013; Les Ateliers de Rennes – Contemporary Art Biennial, Rennes, 2012; Self-Portrait as a White Man, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice, 2010; Luanda Triennial, Luanda, 2010; 29th Sao Paulo Biennial, Sao Paulo, 2010; Picha Encounters – Lubumbashi Biennial, Lubumbashi, 2009; Portraits of a Slippery Look, Goethe-Institut Kenya, Nairobi, 2008; Guangzhou Triennial, Guangzhou, 2008; and 52nd Venice Biennale, Venice, 2007. Henda lives and works in Lisbon and Luanda.
