Konstanze Schmitt is an artist and theater director.

Her work is based on documentary and biographical material and interacts with political contexts. In Schmitt’s performances and installations, she investigates possible realizations of utopias, such as communist desires and human reproduction. She has collaborated with actors, dancers, architects, organized domestic workers, and other contributors. Recent exhibitions include: Truth Is Concrete, Steirischer Herbst, Graz, 2012; The Potosí Principle (with Stephan Dillemuth), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, and Museo Nacional de Arte, La Paz, 2010– 2011; Vom Sinn der Arbeit, Kunstladen, Mannheim, 2009; and Ex Argentina / La Normalidad, Palais de Glace, Buenos Aires, 2006. Schmitt lives and works in Berlin.
