Jan Verwoert is a critic and writer on contemporary art and cultural theory.

He is a contributing editor of frieze, and his writing has appeared in various journals, anthologies, and monographs. Verwoert teaches at Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam; de Appel Curatorial Programme, Amsterdam; and Ha’Midrasha School of Art, Tel Aviv. Recent book-length publications include: Animal Spirits: Fables in the Parlance of Our Times (with Michael Stevenson) (2013); the essay collection Tell Me What You Want What You Really Really Want (2010); and Bas Jan Ader: In Search of the Miraculous (2006). Verwoert lives and works in Berlin and Rotterdam.
